How to make a saint Bridgets day cross

A custom in Ireland is the making of crosses out of rushes for hanging above the entrances to dwellings to invoke the help of St Briget in warding off disease. Rushes were traditionally used to make the St Briget's Cross. These were collected from wetlands and cut into pieces, 8-12 inches long. Rushes can be hard to get for city dwellers so ordinary drinking straws are a good substitute. Use rubber bands to tie up the ends.
You will need:9 drinking staws4 small rubber bands
What to Do:1. Hold one of the straws vertically. Fold a second straw in half. 2. Place the first vertical staw in the centre of the folded second straw. 3. Hold the centre overlap tightly between thumb and forefinger.4. Turn the two straws held together 90 degrees counter clockwise so that the open ends of the second straw are projecting vertically upwards.5. Fold a third straw in half and over both parts of the second straw to lie horizontally from left to right against the first straw. Hold tight.6. Holding the centre tightly, turn the three staws 90 degrees counter clockwise so that the open ends of the third staw are pointing upwards.7. Fold a new straw in half over and across all the staws pointing upwards.9. Repeat the process of rotating all the straws 90 degrees counter clockwise, adding a new folded straw each time until all nine straws have been used up to make the cross. 10. Secure the arms of the cross with elastic bands. Trim the ends to make them all the same length. The cross is now ready to hang.

St. Brigid of Ireland

The mist of long years enfolds the story of Bridget, the dearly loved saint of Ireland. Though we strive to see her clearly, the mist closes round and only lifts to show us, here and there, a flash of light upon her life, and while we gaze in wonder the light is gone. But all the time, behind the mist, we feel there is a gracious presence, a white-robed maiden with a pure strong soul, who dwelt in the green isle of Erin; a gentle saint who dwells there still in the hearts of her people to bless and comfort them as of old. The mist of years cannot dim the eyes of those who love Saint Bridget's memory, nor can it bewilder their faithful hearts. Wise men may dispute the facts of her life, but to the poor, who love her, she is just their friend, the dear Saint Bridget whose touch made sick folk well, whose blessing increased the store of the poor, who helped sad weary mothers, and bent in loving tenderness over many a tiny cradle in those long ago days. So now it comforts the mother's heart, when there are many little hungry mouths to fill, to remember how Saint Bridget's faith ever found a way to feed the poor and needy. When the cradle is made ready for the little one whom God will send, it is for Saint Bridget's blessing that the mother prays, counting it the greatest gift that God can give. She is such a homelike saint this Bridget of the fair green island, and she dwells so close to the heart of the people, that it is their common everyday life which holds the most loving memory of her helpful kindness. In the first days of early spring her little flame-spiked flowers speak to them from the roadside, and bring her message of joy and hope, telling of the return of life, the swelling of green buds, the magic of the spring. We call her flower the common dandelion, but to Saint Bridget's friends it is "the little flame of God" or "the flower of Saint Bride." She herself has many names. Bride or Bridget, "Christ's Foster-Mother," Saint Bridget of the Mantle, the Pearl of Ireland. Many stories and legends have grown up around the memory of Saint Bridget, but all agree in telling us that she was a little maiden of noble birth, and that her father, Dubtach, was of royal descent. We know too that she was born in the little village of Fochard in the north of Ireland, about the time when good Saint Patrick was beginning to teach the Irish people how to serve the Lord Christ. Bridget was a strange thoughtful child, fond of learning, but clever with her hands as well as her head. In those days even noble maidens had plenty of hard work to do, and Bridget was never idle. In the early morning there were the cows to drive out to pasture, when the dew hung dainty jewels upon each blade of grass and turned the spiders' webs into a miracle of flimsy lace. The great mild-eyed cows had to be carefully herded as they wandered up the green hillside, for, should any stray too far afield, there was ever the chance of a lurking robber ready to seize his chance. Then, when the cows were safely driven home again, there was the milking to be done and the butter to be churned. But in spite of all this work, Bridget found time for other things as well. There was always time to notice the hungry look in a beggar's face as she passed him on the road, time to stop and give him her share of milk and home-made bread, time to help any one in pain who chanced to come her way. The very touch of the child's kind, strong little hands seemed to give relief and many a poor sufferer blessed her as she passed, and talked of white-robed angels they had seen walking by her side, guiding and teaching her. And sure it was that in all that land there was no child with so kind a heart as little Bridget's, and no one with as fair a face. Now the older Bridget grew the more and more beautiful she became, and her loveliness was good to look upon. She was as straight and fair as a young larch tree; her hair was yellow as the golden corn, and her eyes as deep and blue as the mountain lakes. Many noble lords sought to marry her, but Bridget loved none of them. There was but one Lord of her life, and she had made up her mind to serve Him. "We will have no more of this," said her father angrily; "choose a prince of noble blood, and wed him as I bid thee." "I have chosen the noblest Prince of all," said Bridget steadfastly, "and He is the Lord Christ." "Thou shalt do as thou art bidden and marry the first man who asks thee," said her brothers, growing more and more angry. But Bridget knew that God would help her, and prayed earnestly to Him. Then in His goodness God took away her beauty from her for a while, and men, seeing she was no longer fair to look upon, left her in peace. At this time Bridget was but a young maiden of sixteen years, but old enough, she thought, to give up her life to the service of God. The good Bishop Maccail, to whom she went, was perplexed as he looked at the young maid and her companions. Did she know what God's service meant, he wondered? Was she ready to endure hardness instead of enjoying a soft life of pleasure and ease? But even as he doubted, the legend says, he saw a strange and wonderful light begin to shine around the maiden's head, rising upwards in a column of flame, and growing brighter and brighter until it was lost in the glory of the shining sky. "Truly this is a miracle," said the Bishop, shading his eyes, which were blinded by the dazzling light. "He who, each morning, sendeth His bright beams aslant the earth to wake our sleeping eyes, hath in like manner sent this wondrous light to clear my inward vision and show my doubting heart that the maiden is one whom God hath chosen to do His work." Even then the careful Bishop sought to know more of Bridget's life ere he trusted the truth of the miracle. But there was nought to tell that was not good and beautiful. Out on the green hills, at work in the home, all her duties had been well and carefully performed. Happy, willing service had she given to all who needed her help, and there was but one fault to be found with her. "She gives away everything that comes to her hand," said her parents. "No matter how little milk the cows are giving, the first beggar who asks for a drink has his cup filled. If there is but one loaf of bread in the house, it is given away. The poor have but to ask, and Bridget will give all that she can find." "That is true," said Bridget gently, "but ye would not have me send them hungry away? Is it not Christ Himself we help when we help His poor?" "Well, well, perhaps thou art right," answered her parents; "and this we must say, that in spite of all that is given away, we have never wanted aught ourselves, but rather our store has been increased." Hearing all this, the Bishop hesitated no longer, but laid his hands in blessing upon Bridget's head, and consecrated both her and her companions to the service of God. And it is said that as she knelt before the altar, while the Bishop placed a white veil upon her head, she leaned her hand upon the altar step, and at her touch the dry wood became green and living once more, so pure and holy was the hand that touched it. At first there were but few maidens who joined themselves with Bridget in her work, but as time went on the little company grew larger and larger. Then Bridget determined to build their home beneath the shelter of an old oak tree which grew near her native village. It was from this oak tree that the convent was known in after years as "the cell of the oak" or Kil-dare. Here the poor and those in distress found their way from all parts, and never was any poor soul turned away without help from the good sisters and the tender-hearted Bridget. Here the sick were healed, the sorrowful comforted, and the hungry fed. Here the people learned to know the love of Christ through the tender compassion of His servant. Far and near the fame of Bridget spread, not only in Ireland but over many lands, and the love of her became so deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, that even to-day her memory is like a green tree bearing living leaves of faith and affection. There are so many wonderful stories clustering round the name of Saint Bridget that they almost make her seem a dim and shadowy person, but there is one thing that shines through even the wildest legend. The tender heart and the helping hand of good Saint Bridget are the keynote of all the wonders that have been woven around her name. We see her swift on all errands of mercy, eager to help the helpless, ready to aid all who were oppressed, and protecting all who were too weak to help themselves. One story tells us of a poor wood-cutter who by mistake had slain a tame wolf, the King's favourite pet, and who for this was condemned to die. As soon as the news was brought to Saint Bridget, she lost not a moment, but set out in the old convent cart to plead with the King for his life. Perhaps her pleading might have been in vain had it not been that as she drove through the wood a wolf sprang out of the undergrowth and leapt into the car. Loving all animals, tame or wild, Saint Bridget nodded a welcome to her visitor and patted his head, and he, quite contentedly, crouched down at her feet, as tame as any dog. Arrived at the palace, Saint Bridget demanded to see the King, and with the wolf meekly following, was led into his presence. "I have brought thee another tame wolf," said Saint Bridget, "and bid thee pardon that poor soul, who did thee a mischief unknowingly." So the matter was settled to every one's satisfaction. The King was delighted with his new pet, the poor man was pardoned, and Saint Bridget went home rejoicing. Those sisters who dwelt in the Cell of the Oak seemed to be specially protected from all harm, and it is said that many a robber knew to his cost how useless it was to try and rob Saint Bridget. Once there came a band of thieves who, with great cunning, managed to drive off all the cows belonging to the convent, and in the twilight to escape unnoticed. So far all went well, and the robbers laughed to think how clever they had been. But when they reached the river which they were obliged to cross, they found the waters had risen so high that it was almost impossible to drive the cows across. Thinking to keep their clothes dry, they took them off and bound them in bundles to the horns of the cows, and then prepared to cross the ford. Bnt Saint Bridget's wise cows knew a better way than that, and immediately there was a stampede, and they set off home at a gallop, and never stopped until they reached the convent stable. The thieves raced after them with all their might, but could not overtake them, and so, crestfallen and ashamed, they had at last to beg for pardon and pray that their clothes might be returned to them. In those days there were many lepers in Ireland, and when there was no one else to help and pity them, the poor outcasts were always sure of a kindly welcome from the gracious lady of Kildare. One of the stories tells of a wretched leper who came to Saint Bridget, so poor and dirty and diseased that no one would come near him. But like our blessed Lord, Saint Bridget felt only compassion for him, and with her own hands washed his feet and bathed his poor aching head. Then, seeing that his clothes must be washed, she bade one of the sisters standing by to wrap her white mantle round the man until his own clothes should be ready. But the sister shuddered and turned away; she could not bear to think of her cloak being wrapped around the miserable leper. Quick to mark disobedience and unkindness, a stern look came into Saint Bridget's blue eyes as she put her own cloak over the shivering form. "I leave thy punishment in God's hands," she said quietly; and even as she spoke, the sister was stricken with the terrible disease, and as the cloak touched the beggar, he was healed of his leprosy. Tears of repentance streamed down the poor sister's face, and her punishment was more than tender-hearted Saint Bridget could bear to see. Together they prayed to God for pardon, and at Saint Bridget's touch the leprosy was healed. So Saint Bridget lived her life of mercy and loving-kindness, and because the people loved and honoured her above all saints, they placed her in their hearts next to the Madonna herself, and, by some curious instinct of tender love and worship, there came to be woven about her a legend which has earned for her the titles of "Christ's Foster-Mother" and "Saint Bridget of the Mantle." It was on that night, so the legend runs, when the Blessed Virgin came to Bethlehem, weary and travel-worn, and could find no room in the village inn, that Saint Bridget was sent by God to help and comfort her. In the quiet hours of the starry night, when on the distant hills the wondering shepherds heard the angels' song, Saint Bridget passed the stable door and paused, marvelling at the light that shone with such dazzling brilliance from within. Surely no stable lantern could shed such a glow as that which shone around the manger there. Softly Saint Bridget entered and found the fair young Mother bending over the tiny newborn Child, wrapping His tender little limbs about with swaddling bands. There was no need to ask who He was. Bridget knew it was the King, and kneeling there, she worshipped too. Then very tenderly she led the young Mother to a soft bed of sweet bay and prayed her that she would rest awhile. "Sweet Mary," she implored, "rest, and I meanwhile will watch and tend the Child." And Mary, looking into Bridget's kind blue eyes, and feeling the touch of her tender strong hands, trusted her with her Treasure, and bade her take the Child and watch Him until the morning should break. So Bridget took off her soft mantle and wrapped the Baby in it, and, sitting there, rocked Him to sleep, crooning to Him all the sweetest baby songs she knew. Perhaps it was Saint Bridget's tender love for little children, and her gentle care for all poor mothers, that helped to weave this curious legend, but there is a beautiful truth hidden deep in the heart of the strange story too. For did not Christ Himself say of all kind deeds done to the poor, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me"; and again, "Whosoever shall do the will of My Father which is in heaven, the same is My brother and sister and mother." So it is that Saint Bridget bears the name of Christ's foster-mother and is linked in this loving way with the Mother of our Lord. Year by year her memory lives on, and when February, the month of Saint Bride, comes round, when the bleating of the first lambs is heard on the hills, and the little flower of Saint Bridget lights up the wayside with its tiny yellow flame, the thought of good Saint Bridget, Christ's foster-mother, fills many a poor mother's heart with comfort. Did she not care for all young things and helpless weary souls? Did she not show how, by helping others, she helped the dear Lord Himself? Does she not still point out the way by which they too may find Him and live in the light of His love? the end fact: on the first day of febuary is called saint bridgets day and every febuary first everyone in Ireland make saint Bridgets day cross and hang it up in there houses or schools or anywhere that anyone can see it

My last day of school and the holidays

On Friday my school in Australia finished school isn't that great no more school for seven weeks yes.On the first week of the holidays I am going to Bundaberg which is right near the great barrier reef and on the Thursday I am going snorkling at lady musgrave island it's like a lagoon so the current won't be that strong for me to swim in. Then on the Monday and the Tuesday nights we are going to Mon repos thats were the turtles lay there eggs that should be really exciting seeing the turtles lay there eggs hopefully they come. oh and one of the most famous places in bundy we are going to is ....... the Bundaberg rum brewery were they make the rum I might even have a tiny wennie taste of the rum.

Where I am going for my christmas holidays

1 Week of the christmas holidays
my mum and I are going to Bundaberg which is about 4 or more hours from Brisbane. For 2 days of that week we are going to mon repos that is where the turtles come and lay there turtle eggs that will be really great. And then later on the week we are going to lady Musgrave island that island is one of the many islands in the barrier reef the reef has made a really magnificent lagoon and it is great to snorkle in .

Next Friday my school is having a swimming carnival. The strokes I am doing are 30 meters freestyle and 30 meters backstroke. The Suncorp bank is providing us with free sunscreen for us to use. On the day people will get a prize for being extra sun safe because here in Australia we can get easily burnt by the scorching hot sun. This is dangerous because when we get older we could get skin and sun cancers you can die from. At the end of the day the person with the most races won will win the age champion for their age. So it should be a great day!!!!!!!!.

mini vinnies christmas appeal

for Mini Vinnies we are doing a christmas appeal for the needy familys and for the homeless people we are giving paper bags filled with decorations and goodies that will be perfect for them on christmas.my school community has donated so many toys and food you can not even imagine it theres so much more then me and my friends could of imagined.My friend Taylor and I have wraped two familys presents for christmas I think they will have a lot of fun with what we gave them for christmas they will have somthing to play with and have fun with.On the other hand for the homless people we are making paper bags that all soughts of things to home made decorations to mince puddings and lollies we are giving the paper bags to rosies and they will hand them out on christmas day that will make the homeless peoples christmas have one little spark from mini vinnies.

In my class we are doing a unit on justice and law at first I thought this unit would be boring but has actually been a very interesting unit I have learnt alot about about the world and all the diferences in the world and not only that but alot about myself and judging others because in some of the cartoons we have been reading they sound really bad when others say hurtful things so I would like you to comment and tell me if you have learnt anything about justice and law and if you have learnt anything about the world and people and differences.

Here in Australia we have christmas in summer but in other countrys it is in winter so it is quite different these are what some of my friends do on christmas tegan has a christmas lunch holly visits family and has lunch and gives presents.I stay at home and have a family lunch so as you can see family lunch is very big over here.so leave me a comment and tell me what you do in your contry and family it would be interesting to see what other familys do for Christmas.

Carkey day.

On Thursday we are having a carkey day for Steve irwin we have to dress up in carkey and we are making animal pictures and sending wildlife pictures to Australia zoo.And of course on the day we are having carkey day it is Steve irwin day for his death and his commitment to the wildlife he loved the animals and cared for them with love and devotion.I feel really sorry for bindi irwin and her family because he was a great man and it would of beena tragic loss.

Tommorow at my school we are having a big celebration for the new library and prep room. Our old principal is coming it is going to massive because there are going to be politicians,parents teachers students and our aboriginal elder Aunty Delmae she is going to be singing her native song. Theres going to be a liturgy and speaches and peolple are going to be coming round to our classrooms and watching us work but were going to be a bit tired because first thing in the morning we have swimming.so it's going to be great.

This my lunch and this what I basically bring every day apart from the chicken nuggets and sauce thats tuckshop we only get that twice a week we have a wide range of food at tuckshop so it's kind of hard to choose what you want.As you can see most of the food we bring is healthy we bring to food is healthy but sometimes I bring a treat.for tuckshop I usally have a mini pizza or some chicken nuggets. try to leave a comment and tell me what kind of school lunch you have.

The Melbourne cup

Today was the Melbourne cup.The Melbourne cup is always on the first Tuesday of november this spectacular race has been going since 1861. this race is very speacial race because everyone stops to watch it and the Melbourne cup is the most famous horse race in the world. The first horse to win the Melbourne cup is archer. My whole school stops to watch this race and we pick a horse out of a hat the horse I got Mahler he is not a bad horse and the horse that I bet on is tawqeetso lets see if those horses win

Last week my class went on school camp.I am going to tell you all about it.!st day........
we went to brown lake I had not been there in a long time it was so awesome we did raft building, canoeing and fun water games. The hardest activite was raft building and the worse part about raft building we didn't even get any help from our instructor he only helped the year 5's. 2nd day.........
We did.... orientering ,touch tanks and boomerang painting the touch tanks was one of the best activities of the whole camp.3rd day going home.........
on the last day we went to cylinder beach at point look out the water was crystal clear it was great we stayed there for 3 hrs then it was time to go home it was a great camp and i will not forget it. bridget

pure dead magic

I've been reading pure dead magic by Debi Gliori this book is very interesting and wierd at times there are very wierd mames in this book that youcan barely read but that does not matter at all because it is so good even though I have only been reading this book for short time I think I am starting to understand the mames and words. I have never read or have been into really magical it was a great book and will definetly finish it.

Every Wednesday I watch Bindi the jungle girl some people think that show is for little kids well thats what they think and they are wrong Bindi Irwin is a wildlife warrior like her dad well lets put it this way her whole family are wildlife warriors that is why i find her so amzing to go through such pain of losing her father it must of been so hard for little Bindi to read that lovely speach on her father but now she is the wildlife warrior leader and she will always will be she will definetly follow in fathers foot steps you can see her love for animals in her when she talks about them you just want to listen foreverand ever and that is why I will always be a wildlife warrior with Bindi.

My trip to America

Wednesday the 13th of JuneWe arrived here in America even though we left on the 13th in Australia and flew about 20 hours.We got picked up in New York in a limousine by my Aunt Cindy. It was very big and we had a two hour trip to her house in New Jersey.1st WEEKWe went to the beach and to a base ball game, where I saw my cousin play in the minor league, he plays for the Orioles. It was great and they sang take me out to the ball game.I have been getting to know my cousins who are aged 6, 10 and 12 and went to my cousins school he is going to be in grade 5. I spoke to his class and they asked my lots of questions about Australia.His school was very nice and his teacher was as well.I have been playing lots of outdoor sport here with my cousins as it is summer and very very hot. It does not get dark here in the summer till very late, about 9.30pm or so, so we have lots of time to play outside and stay at the beach.I went with my cousins to the board walk in Ocean city it was great.My Aunt's house is very old and was built in 1850 and still has a stepping stone outside for getting off your horse or carriage.2nd WeekWe went to Busch Gardens theme park and water park for two days. This is in Virginnia and we stayed in Williamsburg.This park has the biggest rides in America.We then went to Washington. We saw the Natural History Museum, the Aerospace Museum, the Holocaust Museum and National treasures of America. I really liked the Holocaust Museum I saw Daniel's story there and it was very sad.It was really hot so we took an open air bus the second day to see all the sights like the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, Union Station, Vietnam Memorial, Arlington Cemetary and lots of other buildings, like the Capitol building and the White House. The Capitol building it like our parliament building. The President lives at the White House.There of lots of very beautiful old building here and the Capitol building and the White House are magnificent.3rd Week We have been to Atlantic City to the Boardwalk, I liked the Ocean City one better but it was very hot the day we went. There are lots of Casinos in Atlantic City and they are very beautiful inside.
The Boardwalk in Ocean City runs along the back of the beach for a few miles and has lots of amusement places, rides, shops and places to eat.They have Mac and Manco's Pizza which I think is the best pizza in the world.
We had a big fourth of July party with lots of patriotic decorations, my Aunt Cindy has a big house which was built in 1850, and she has a big pool we had about 60 people at the party. (4th of July is a holiday and it is like out Australia Day)
It has been very hot here between 90 and 100 degrees...not sure what that is in celcius....We went to a place called Cape May yesterday and it was really lovely it was one of the first beach holidays places in New Jersey so the houses are really old but really cute.Many of the houses over here fly American flags out the front.
I have met some new friends, Bree who is 12 lives down the road from my Aunt Cindy's house she will be in 7th grade when she goes back to school after the summer holidays. In America the school year runs from September through to June, they have their long school holidays in the middle of the year.
It is quite were we are staying so I can ride the bike Bree lent me up and down the road to her house and we sit under the bridge at the Tuckahoe River, we stay up really late it doesn't get dark till about 9.30pm. I was at her house until 10 last night with a big group of friends. It has been so good.
I went out tubing with Bree and her family in their boat for the day last week it was great, we spent the day on the river and bay and had lots of fun.
Things are different here just some little things like when you switch the light on you flick the switch up not down like us and they drive on the other side of the road with the steering wheel on the other side.
We are going to Wildwood today to the boadwalk there and will go to the water park.
4th Week
Well I had a great week, we went to New York and I saw the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Times Square. We went to lunch at the Planet Hollywood and went to Toys R Us at Times Square.
We went up to the viewing area of the Empire State Building and also saw Ground Zero, it was very sad. We went to a Broadway show and saw Mary Poppins it was great.
Friday we went to Philidelphia and saw all the historical sites, I loved the Liberty Bell and Betsy Ross house, she made the first American flag. It was really cool at Independence Hall to walk where George Washington and Benjamin Franklin had walked.
We went to the Franklin Institute and saw the King Tut exhibition it was very interesting.I went to a Phillies Baseball game and saw them beat the Cardinals.
We went to another baseball game at Lakewood to see my cousin play in the minor league ...I love my cousin he is a great sportsperson and really good fun. He signed a baseball for me.
GOING HOME
We left on Sunday after a big breakfast at the waterfront with my family... it was really sad I will miss them.
We flew from JFK airport in New York and changed planes in LA it was a long flight.
I am glad we are home to see all my friends and family again but I will miss America and my family and new friends there as well.
MY FAVOURITE TIMES
Buying lots of souvenirs, seeing Mary Poppins, riding the rides at Busch Gardens, going to Toys r Us in New York, playing with my cousins, hanging out with my new friends, watching baseball games, spending time with my Aunt's and Uncle on the beach, seeing new places like Washington, going on a ride in a horse and carriage in Philidelphia and seeing Betsy Ross House, having a great 4th of July party.

just before the holiday I left a comment on a grade 1 class Denver Colorado USA there teachers name was ms. Kelly. I said I was from Australia and our school and especially our awesome blogs.I told her she should leave me and 6J's blog a comment. Then on the first day back I had a comment her class had left me a comment. It said how she thought I had put lots of hard work and that her class was starting a topic on air and weather and that she wanted to ask us about the air and weather then I left her another one yesterday so hopefully she will type back.

The instrument I play is the piano it is a really great and easy instrument to play but the best thing is it is fun I am really glad I can play the piano because it is a great instrument to play if your just starting and think it's boring because you are playing baby songs don't give up because I have been doing it for 7 years and I have just finished clocks by coldplay it's 9 PAGES so keep going and I am nilly finished boulavard of broken dreams by greenday and I have just have started my Immortal by Evanessance so thats why you should keep going with what ever instrument you play. bridget

I am reading Eglantine one of the four Catherine Jinks creepy ghost story's this book is very mysterious I would reccomend this book to people who like creepy and ghost hunter storys the girl in the story allie is a really good ghost hunter she reminds me of Tixie Belden she was around along time ago and it that I have actually just finished that book about 1 or 2 weeks ago it was a great book and I would like to read the other books in the series.eglantine is about a small town family living in Australia and they have just moved into A new house well I wouldn't call it new it was built in 8190 there is a ghost called well they think it's Eglantine but there not quite shore yet the main characters so far are Allie and bethan and there mum and there mum s boyfriend Ray they have had paranormalists everythig just to get rid of a wall writing and kind of frighting ghost.

In school we have this program going called mini vinnies this is a program to help hospital's with sick kids and premiture baby's and homeless people.I really like this because it help's people who are in need.we do all sought's of project's in mini vinnies the reason we are called mini vinnies is because we are mini warriors helping other's.i would like to go and visit the hospitals and talk to the sick little kids.I would not like to be a sick child.I would like to show you some of these activties teddys gods eyes pillows.

Safety House

When you get to grade 6 you do this course called safety house this course is to become A Safety House ambassadors when you finish the course you get a badge to say you are a Safety House ambassador.Then about a week later you are asigned to a class to teach them about safety house and you get a partner to do your classes with. My class is year 5 and my partner is alex he is okay to work with he try's hardest but thats all that count's.this year there has been 3 alerts which is more alerts then there was all last year.In our lessons we teach tham all the things they need to know about being safe.the most important thing to remember are the three questions they are 1. do my parents know were I am,2.do i feel safe with this person,3.can I get help if I need it.

Our Paper Cranes

For the last 5 days we have been making paper cranes to send to Japan for the statue of Sadako.The people who are doing it are Me,Tegan,Taylor,Porscha,Georgie,Alice and Holly.This has set me a very challenging goal for this term. Making paper cranes is really hard espeacially when it's the first time you have done it before mrs A taught us how to make them mrs a said that the instructions we were useing were to hard to understand so we went on the net and found much better one's.Then we sat on the stage and read them out to each other. It was much better with the better instructions then we went up stairs and showed everyone.Then at lunch we tryed to remember the instructions but it didn't have a very good result.By the end of the day we had mastered it.on the weekend everyone was experts. When we came back to school on Monday evrey one who was doing it on Friday had made like 10 or 6 but it was very impressive because everyone had so little practice.But the biggest suprise was when Holly walked into school with a massive box we thought it was just a box with nothing inside it but when we looked there were 20 paper cranes inside.Then Tegan and I thought that this wuold really contribute to our 1000 paper cranes.

Sadako's Story

The Sadako Story
The paper crane has become an international symbol of peace in recent years as a result of it's connection to the story of a young Japanese girl named Sadako Sasaki born in 1943. Sadako was two years old when the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945. As she grew up, Sadako was a strong, courageous and athletic girl. In 1955, at age 11, while practicing for a big race, she became dizzy and fell to the ground. Sadako was diagnosed with Leukemia, "the atom bomb" disease. Sadako's best friend told her of an old Japanese legend which said that anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes would be granted a wish. Sadako hoped that the gods would grant her a wish to get well so that she could run again. She started to work on the paper cranes and completed over 1000 before dying on October 25, 1955 at the age of twelve.

The point is that she never gave up. She continued to make paper cranes until she died. Inspired by her courage and strength, Sadako's friends and classmates put together a book of her letters and published it. They began to dream of building a monument to Sadako and all of the children killed by the atom bomb. Young people all over Japan helped collect money for the project.
In 1958, a statue of Sadako holding a golden crane was unveiled in Hiroshima Peace Park. The children also made a wish which is inscribed at the bottom of the statue and reads:
"This is our cry, This is our prayer, Peace in the world".Today, people all over the world fold paper cranes and send them to Sadako's monument in Hiroshima.

orangutans they are adorable I love them sadly they will be the first great apes to be exstinct they will be exstinct in 20 years there is a 50 50 chance that they won't be exstinct but that's only if the pochers stop killing them.There are four great apes who are bonobos,gorillas,orangutans,chimpanzees.You may not have heard of the Bonobo

but it will be the second great ape to be exstinct the third great ape to be exsticnt will

be the gorilla there are 2 different types of gorilla the mountian gorilla and the low top gorilla and last but not least the Chimpanzee they are the last to be exstinct they are funny animals but when angry they're angry.the Orangutans are the most gentle of all no wonder their my favourite.I will love them forever!!!!!!
